Committing to Energy Efficiency
One of the key priorities of our sustainability efforts is energy efficiency. Cologix employs state-of-the-art data center designs and technologies to optimize energy usage and minimize our carbon footprint. By implementing advanced cooling systems, intelligent power management solutions and energy-efficient infrastructure, we strive to maximize operational efficiency while reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. We design our facilities to an annualized Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.2, which is lower than the global industry average of 1.55.1
Adopting Renewable Energy
In addition to energy efficiency measures, Cologix is committed to increasing the use of renewable energy sources across our facilities. Through partnerships with renewable energy providers, we are actively working to transition towards a more sustainable energy mix. We are currently sourcing Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) for key sites, advancing our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint and promoting sustainable energy practices. In 2022, we achieved 50% renewable energy across our footprint, taking major steps on our way to carbon neutrality and 100% renewable energy by 2030. By harnessing clean, renewable energy sources, we are reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and contributing to the global transition to a low-carbon economy.
Reducing Our Carbon Footprint
We understand the importance of reducing our carbon footprint to combat climate change and preserve the environment for future generations. We have implemented a range of initiatives to minimize our environmental impact, including:
- Defining our Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions in line with industry- leading frameworks.
- Committing to setting science-based targets aimed at achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.
- Continuing to align our Basis of Design to LEED standards and certifying eligible sites with Energy Star.
- 65% of our energy usage was carbon-free in 2022. We are targeting 100% of our energy usage to be carbon-free by 2030.
- We are committed to responsible water usage. Many of our facilities use closed-loop water systems that ensure we are recycling water and not returning it to the environment, if possible.
- In 2022, we began an electronic waste (eWaste) recycling program and in the first eight months, it recycled more than 12,000 pounds of electronics, preventing more than 80,000 pounds of CO2-equivalent emissions.
